When
mansoon pick up momentum in late June and early July, sports lovers are forced to sit inside the house, having no
hope of playing outdoor Wimbledone gets underway in Britain. Out of the four
Grandslam tournaments this is the one I like most. Early days it was BBC world services
which brought live commentary of the match later it was Dooradarshan
telecasting the live matches and now Star sports bringing home all the
excitements of the championship.
Muscle
power of mens tennis and beauty and elegance of women tennis are combined.
Greenery of the court add to the excitement. John Mecenro,Boris Becker Stephan Edberg
Pete Samprus,Federer. are still live in
memory dominating their era. Beautiful ladies added color to the
championship.Chris Evert,Martina ,Stephi,Monica ,Hinjis,Sherapoa,Willioms
sisters and many many.Who can forget Agassi who had stolen Stefi Graff from the
centre court to make her life partner.
Although I
had never witnessed a live match nor I have played tennis I used to watch Wimbledon
very closely. All matches are just like a war between two players.A peculiar nature
of counting points,Ball boys,Crowd mannerism of each players always impressed
me.Fore hand and back hand returns.Players sticking patiently to the back line
forcing error from the opponent. Some players rush to the nets attacking. Some
gain points only with power full serves. Some have lightning passing shots Some
have clever drop shots and some players are too clever to lob the ball over the
advancing opponent. The smile and jubilation of the winner.Tears of sorrow disbeleave, agony
of the player who was upset by a week opponent. Every thing bring in much excitement.Crowd
…so dignified, always ready to obey Umpire ,who use to silence pleace…and we
will immedietly see Umpire say thanks…
Players
argue with umpires over the line calls. This bring much fun in the game and add
spice to the match.Players drop their racket in anger and fetch fine.
Any how I
am looking forward to this years excitement……..
