KOLLAM SRI PISHARIKAVU TEMPLE FESTIVAL

Popularly known as Kaliyattam,weaklong celebration with veriety of culturalprogrammes and religious customs which is unique will be stagged during this period.Thousands of devotees pour into Kollam about two K M from Koilandy.This is a main temple in the Northern part of Kerala.The main attraction is that it corelates people of different caste and creed.This leads people to unity.Devotees comes in groups from different parts in group with elephants,Muthukuda,and other colorful decorative itemsThis exhonerate unity in diversity.Nine Gaja veeras from Guruvayoor temple is an integral part of the festival.Another attraction is the Vadyamelam.All are invited to Kollam Sri Pisharikavu Temple for the festival from 29th March to 5th April.

Nandakam is the tool handed over by Sri Porkali Bhagavathi to her devotee,pleased by his Prayer.Godess said if you continue to worship this tool your desires will be accomplished.Sri Pishari Kavu Temple was established by Rich Vaishyapramanees who brought the Nandakam from Kollam District of Kerala.This could be the reason for namining this part of Koilandy as Kollam.Eight Vaishya Families stayed near the Bhagavathi.They are the Ooralans of the temple.

People turn up in large number.

Special Points I have noted

People are neetly dressed.They give much respect to aacharas.Women worshipers are greater than men.Poeple want the festival to be conducted neatly with out the consideration of Caste and creed.No Brahmin domination.Families of Ooralans work day night for the successful conduct of the festival.Most of the people behave well.Women are almost free from men domination.

GOOD BYE TO RETIRING HANDS

Today a unique function was held to bade good bye to the Panchayath Staff who are due to retire from service on 31st March 2011.The function was organised at Sreyas hall at Sulthan Bathery.This could be first of its kind .The function was held commonly for Deputy Director of Panchayaths ,LSGD Engineer, Secretaries of Panchayaths ,Lower Division Clerk, and Peon. All shared a common stage. District Panchayath President presided over the meeting and District Collector was also present on the occasion to confer wishes on the retiring officials. Many talked about the work load in the Present Panchayath, and the audit objections and the liability fixed on the retired hands and the unexplainable hardship the Pensioners are experiencing to get the No Objection Clearance from the Department. That is the way it goes.Sri Suresh the retiring DDP referred the inefficient system in Waynad as compared to other District. District Collector said that the Staff of Panchayath Department get chance to serve people in a better way, when we help poor god will shower his grace on us he said. As the Election Scenario is getting hot the programme was wound up in a hurry. The pathetic condition of the Department is a matter of great concern. The matter has been discussed for years still there is no major change in the scenario.Emploees respond to this matter in an indifferent way.
The Government has now proposed a United Department with Panchayath, Block Municipality and LSGD Engineering Wing .Will this bring a major change in the Department. Only time will answer the question.

India just 3 wins away from World Cup

Certainly possible.We cant say confidently that this team has the right to lift the WC.But certainly they have in them all the power to fire on the other teams in the quater final stage.Once again failing to capitalise on the fantastic start.The power play has again done the trick.India lost its 7 wickets for 50 runs.How pleasing is it to see Kohli carrying his good form.Lot can be expected for Indian Cricket from this young man.How well he builds his innings.Yuvi looks in good touch.Ashwin done well and Bajji also shown the glimpses of his past glory.Zaheer was simply superb.But alas Patan....My best option is to replace Patan with Ryna when Sehwag comes back.If it is a good track for the bowlers Patan Should be replaced by Sreesanth.What about the fitness of Yuvi ,he was seen Puffing and Panting while batting.They are professionals.What are they doing with their fitness.Certainly they should know that they are playing for the National Team and the Physio and players have the responsibility to keep the fitness of the team.Australia ia a formidable team.No Gilly,No Hyden,Ponting not in good touch.Still they have a good batsmen,Watson,Hussy brothers.I am worried that Lee, Jonson and Tait will couse serious damage to strong Indian batting line up.Any how let us hope for the best............JEETEGA BHARATH.............

REQUEST TO INDIAN FANS

We are put under tremendous pressure.Millions of Indians wants the World Cup.But we are human beings.It is unfortunate that we have more than enough batsman.Even the talented Ryna has to sit out.We played exceptenally well in all the matches.But even after dream start we had a couple of unbeleavable end to our innings.One against England and other against South Africa.Only for that reason we had to tie up with one and lose to other one by narrow margin.We are blamed for this.But this was not just our fault.That is the glory of Cricket.The batting power play had let us down.The people wants 100% guarenty from us.Alas........ we have only few quality bowlers.Pity that Ishant not in form.Praveen injured.Harbajan not in form.Our spinners doesnt even perform as well as the spinners of minor teams did.Bowling department looks very weak.Part timers wont do the job always.Still there is hope.Only four game away.We will try our best.If some thing wrong happens Please dont throw stones on us.We are the No 2 in onedayers and No 1 in test Cricket Please dont think that we have no commitment.Only one team can win in the knock out stage that can be us .Please dont critisise us for each upset for each wicket,for each boundary opposite team score.Encourage us .Pray for us.

YAKSHAGANA THALA MADDALE

Yakshagana is a art form in Karnataka and Kasaragod District.In Yakshagana Thala Maddala there is no dress for artists.They sit around and deliver dialoges.Background is same as Yakshagana.One Bhagavathar,who sing ‘’padas’’ just like in Kathakali with a thala in his hand.One Maddala artist.’’Maddala’’ is an instrument identical in appearance to ‘’Mridanga’’ with slight changes in make.Then of course ‘’Chenda’’,’’Harmonium’’,and ‘’Chengala’’.In Thala Maddala small stories are narrated which extend upto three hours.The artists sit around and deliver dialogs for their charectors.There will be funny exchange of words befitting to the situation. Story is not just narrated here but the actors go deep into the characters to display the minute part and they engage in serious arguments. The audience listen to it carefully and they encourage the artists with applause. The actors are often big scholars and they use their wast knowledge to make a strong point of their charectors.Often the unsung heroes of puranas are depicted wonderfully and they make a strong mark on the audience. I remember how well Sri Kumble Sunda Rao presented Karna,Bharatha ,Sudhanva,Dhruva.After hearing from them we feel for the charectors.I still remember Karna ,asking Sree Krishna why he did not bring to his notice that Pandavas were his brothers earlier.(We know that Sree Krishna now it and even Karna encouraged Droupathi Vastrakshepa).We feel pity for the charector.Because even the minute part of the story will be analised and argued against and for.This is a wonder full way of spreading the messages of Puranas and Shatras.But unfortunately,the art has lost its familiarity among the people just like other arts.The Thalamaddle gets of with a prayer of goddess.”AMBURUHUDALA NETHRE SREE DURGAMBIKAYA BALAKONDU”.Ends with a mangala Pada’’KARADOLU PARASU PASHANKUSHA DHARAGE HARUSHDEE BAKUTHARA POREWAWAKE’’.Some of the great artists are Sheni GopalaKrishana Bhat,Kumble Sundar Rao,Prabhakar Joshi,Perla Krishna Bhat,Govinda Bhat,Kumble Sreedhar Rao etc.May this art survive for the sake of art and for the sake of rich Indian Culture.
