Therapy of heart

I have been in a hospital not as a patient but alongside my mother who had sustained an injury to her legs. The stay in the hospital extended for almost a week. Hospital is not the pleasant place to stay. But still more than the grievances which prevail in hospitals many other things which had to be looked into and studied deeply hide behind these grievances.
The admitted patient and their relatives will be feeling tough. Especially during this fast life where all are engaged in serious business. Further families are micro in nature, and there are not many who will feel free serving the aggrieved patients.
Here comes the importance of humanitarian attitude towards the patient not only from the hospital authorities but from the people who stay with the patient and who visits the hospital. This includes not only the friends, close relatives but so called enemies.
The patient will be in a terrible condition, some of them will have pain some have anxiety, some have threat to life. Whatever it may be this sort of situation will be faced by one and all where they deserve sympathy and utmost consideration and caring. Pain and anxiety will be alleviated with compassion and care more than medicine. A patient will recover fast when he or she get this humanitarian consideration. At the same time there are many who don’t get this boon, and continuously suffer till the final breath. There is no doubt that the patient will be spell bound when he finds that he is being cared by everybody. If somebody who is considered his enemy visits him when he is in bed his happiness will have no boundaries.
This sort of feeling will be experienced by everybody in this earth. The volume of experience and the time span may vary. Every human being realizes this fact at a certain juncture; especially when he is at the receiving end or when some of his close relative or companion happens to have some difficult time. At this point of time they lift their ethics to such a level that they can be called human being. But unfortunately we are not able to keep ourselves at that point and ego comes back and masks our heart.
We recently had the experience of Mohan Lal and Sukumar Azheekode. They in spite of their rivalry had some light moment when the later was bed ridden.
When I explain about the experiences in a hospital I can’t finish without mentioning about the nurses. The successors of Florence nightingale. They have a vital role to play in hospitals. One gentle touch, one soothing word, one gentle smile can bring forth a drastic change. The sisters’ work alongside doctors and one who is duty bound and do the work carefully will be remembered by the patient all through life. The Dows as they look like fly around the hospital busily engaged in their holy work. The sisters look beautiful in their neat dress, clipped hair, and gentle smile and with a big heart -always ready for service. It is a pity that the Nursing profession is not considered a decent one in certain families. It could be because they had to come in close contact with the patients of different caste, sex and mental frame. And there is always a big chance for ill treatment. But one can say many number of Malayalee girls work in different states of India and abroad. But in my opinion it is the most holy profession of all other profession. The Government should encourage nurses and they should be assured of fairly decent remuneration which I thing eluding most of them.
When man is faced with naked reality of the life his ego vanishes and his heart will be filled with love and affection. In order to become a better human being man should realize himself that life, health, wealth, glory are not ever lasting but the love towards mankind and the realization of the pain of others is utmost important.
